Here are the updates for this weekend 14th June

SOCIAL GOLF:
As a mark of respect to the Captain, on the loss of his sister Gerrardine, the Social tonight is cancelled.

INTERCLUB:
This weekend is a busy one for the ladies teams with The Revive Active team taking on Rathcore on Saturday at 3pm. They have 2 matches at home and 3 away.

Both the Minor Cup and Challenge Cup teams are in action in Carton House on Sunday with the Minor Cup team playing against Headfort at 2:30 and the Challenge Cup team playing Ashbourne @ 3:15.

Finally on Saturday, the Jimmy Bruen team have their stroke play qualifying event in Kilcock at 12:30 where they hope to qualify for the match play element which takes place on the Sunday.

PHOTOGRAPHS REQUIRED:
The club will be launching a new website over the coming weeks and we would like to have as many photographs of both the club and clubhouse on it so that we can show it off to potential members and visitors.

With this in mind we are asking members to submit any photos they may have of the course or clubhouse to blackbushphotos@gmail.com for inclusion on the website. The photos used will have to be in landscape orientation to fit on the webpages.

Note: Please bear in mind photos should not include members or visitors, and the taking of photos should not be the cause slow play!

JOKER:
The Joker draw will take place tonight. The Jackpot is €1,700. Remember to get your entries in. It could be you.

NR’S (NON RETURN) AND NC’S (NO CARD)
An NC (also an NR) is when the player does not return a card after the competition.

An NR in common usage is where a player enters a no score at one or more holes in a strokes competition and consequently does not have a score.

It is the players responsibility always to sign for and return a card, irrespective of the score or whether or not he/she has completed the round. A note can be written on the card to explain why the round was not completed as there may well be valid reasons.

In stroke-play and stableford, an NC automatically leads to an increase of .1 in the players handicap. However, the situation is different for NRs.  For handicap purposes, a nett double bogey score is applied at a hole where a player fails to record a score. With a handicap allowance of one shot on each, this will be a 6 at a par 3, a 7 at a par 4 and an 8 at a par 5. (Nett Double Bogey adjustment) This essentially means that very poor scores on a few holes do not automatically lead to an increase of .1

Failure to return cards puts extra work on the team handling the cards after the competition. Failure to return cards can also impact on the CSS for the day.  So, please always sign and return your card.

SENIOR FOURSOMES QUALIFIERS:
This Sunday Black Bush hosts one of the Regional Qualifiers for the Ladies Foursomes. We will be hosting 10 clubs from Dublin, Kildare, Louth and Monaghan. The golf kicks off at 1pm and there should be some excellent golf on show.

COURTESY ON THE COURSE:
Members are reminded that they should show courtesy on the course to not only their playing partners but also to all other golfers. A detailed list of do’s and don’ts are listed in the club diary and we would refer you to these to assist in making everybody’s day on the course an enjoyable one. Nobody wants to be delayed on the course, distracted by people shouting or indeed have golf balls raining down on them from behind. It is envisaged that these will be snapped up by the end of the week so get in early to avoid disappointment.

PAVILION MEMBERSHIP:
The club is today launching Pavilion Membership. This is aimed at former members that have lost contact with the club as well as locals who might want to avail of the facilities of the club. If you know anybody that may be interested in this please ask them to contact the office for further details.

Here are the updates for this weekend (31st May 2019).

SOCIAL GOLF:
Social golf tonight is at 6:15pm with check in from 5:45pm. The Joker draw will take place after this.

CLUB CLASSIC:
Final preparations are under way for the Classic. If you have entered a team please ensure that you arrive on time so that you can make your way to the allocated Tee. Payment for the Classic teams won’t be taken by BRS so payment can be made by dropping to the club, or paying by Credit Card in advance, it can also be made on the day.

Our esteemed member Jim Marsden is having a display and sale of his artwork during this weekend. The pieces will be displayed in The Annexe, please take time to enjoy Jim’s wonderful works of art and feel free to buy a memento.

Finally, thanks to all those that have provided prizes for the Raffle or sponsored a Tee box. Good luck to all those taking part we hope that you and your guests enjoy the day.

CLUBHOUSE AND ENVIRONS:
We have a golf course and clubhouse that we should all be very proud of and not be afraid of showing them off. In this regard it is important that both are portrayed in the best possible light. In last Friday’s bulletin we gave tips on how to do your bit for the course.

This week we are asking you to do your bit for the clubhouse and environs. While Peggy is employed as our cleaner, we all need to do our bit in keeping the place neat and tidy. This includes, but is not limited to, picking up any rubbish that we see around, not leaving any golf equipment / attire lying around the place, removing grass etc. from shoes and trollies at the cleaning bay’s and generally making sure that the place is neat and tidy.

On this note, we are looking for somebody to cover while Peggy goes on holidays. If you know of anybody that may be interested please contact the Office who will provide details.

INTERCLUB:
Two great results since the last update!
On Tuesday the ladies Boyne Trophy team had a fantastic win over Killeen Castle and on Wednesday the men’s Straffan Cup team had a big win over Dun Laoghaire.

This afternoon the North Leinster Mixed team are in action against South Meath so if you don’t have anything planned for the evening why not come down and give them some support.

It is all quiet this weekend on the Inter Club scene for the rest of the weekend and it gives us a chance to reflect on how well our teams have being doing so far this year. We still have teams involved in 16 different competitions which is a fantastic achievement. One pennant has already been secured and it would be great to get another one or two! We would like to thank all those that have represented the club and we would also like to thank all those that came out and supported.

BAR CARDS:
Remember if you use your bar card to pay for food and / or drink in the Bar you will receive a member discount. All members should have a Bar Card. If you need a replacement one please contact the Office and they will organise this for you

WEEKLY EMAILS:
These bulletins are being sent to all members in the club who have registered on BRS and have provided a valid email address. However, it has come to our attention that not all members are receiving the emails. Those people that are not receiving the emails do not know that they are being sent and as a result can’t let us know that they aren’t receiving them (obvious statement). Can you ask your playing partners over the coming days if they are receiving these emails and if they aren’t can you ask them to contact the office who will rectify the issue for them.

INTERCLUB:
It was a tough weekend for the mens teams with both the Barton Shield and Junior Cup teams failing to progress from the strokeplay qualifying elements of their competitions and the Barton Cup team being beaten by Hollywood Lakes by 1.5 to 3.5

The Ladies fared better with both the Minor Cup and Challenge Cup teams progressing to the next rounds with wins over Dundalk and Ardee respectively, both by 3.5 to 1.5. Unfortunately though the Junior Cup team bowed out being defeated by Laytown & Bettystown 1-4.

There are still a number of teams involved in competitions and I’m sure they would appreciate any support that you can give them. The teams in action this week are as follows:

On Sunday the Fred Perry team had a win over Rathcore by 4 matches to 1 but unfortunately our Irish Mixed Foursomes team fell at the third hurdle, going down to Ashbourne by 4.5 to 0.5 but this score doesn’t represent the closeness of the match.
There are a number of teams in action this week and these are as follows:

CLASSIC:
Our Club Classic on 3rd June – Can you help??

The Club Classic is the largest one off fundraising event that the club runs on an annual basis. Members are asked to support this event as much as they can. It would be great if members could bring along visitors to play on the day. Remember they don’t have to have a GUI handicap in order to play in the classic and it could be a way of showing off the Club to potential members. The timesheet is now open for the day and it promises to be a good fun day with a great club atmosphere created by our two shotgun starts. If you are unable to play you can help by sponsoring a tee box at a cost of €50 or helping with sponsorship towards prizes. There will also be a raffle, first prize is a car parking space for the year ahead with some lovely hampers also. Tickets will be on sale for the raffle from this weekend. Your support for this event is greatly appreciated.

MEMBERSHIPS:
The club is currently offering very good rates for new members. If you know of anybody that is interested in joining a club, why not ask them to consider Black Bush as their new golf club. If they are asked they may consider joining, if they are not asked they won’t. This may be particularly relevant at any society outings you may be at. Any enquiries can be directed to the office.

Here are the updates for this weekend (17th May 2019)

PRIZES PRESENTATION:
The next prize presentation for the men will take place on Friday May 24 after the Social golf. All prize winners will be notified and will be expected to attend. There are a number of vouchers awaiting collection behind the bar. It might be no harm to check the box in case there is one there for you that you didn’t know about.

SPINNEY TIDY UP:
The Golf Course was a hive of activity on Wednesday when a trusty band of volunteers came together to tidy up the spinneys on both the A and B courses. I’m sure you will see the fruits of their labours as you go around the course over the next few days. The club is indebted to all of these volunteers and we would like to thank them all for turning out in such great numbers. Thanks also go to the course staff who facilitated the day’s activities. If you would like to be a part of the volunteer effort, please advise the Office and you will be contacted when work is proposed. If you are available, you just come along. The next project will be to sort out the ditch on the C course, which is scheduled to commence in early June.

The club will again be hosting its Club Classic this year with the event being held on 3rd June. There will be 2 shotgun starts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The cost per team will be €180. There will also be multiple sponsorship opportunities available. Timesheet is now open.

Here are the updates after the weekend 14th May

JOKER:
Joe Lynch’s envelope was pulled out early on Saturday morning while Joe was eating breakfast with all the darkness into light golfers. Joe had selected the number 7 which turned the Jack of Spades winning Joe €100. The wine winners were Joannq Sitqz from the bar, Fiona Tarlaton and Bernie Caffrey. Next Friday the Jackpot will be €1,300

INTERCLUB:
The Pierce Purcell team put in a great effort last weekend. They qualified in second place out of eighteen teams on Saturday. They then defeated St. Margarets on a score of three – two, on Sunday morning, with a couple of matches going extra holes. In the afternoon they took on Royal Tara in the section final. Royal Tara had already finished first in the strokeplay element by ten clear shots so they were always going to be difficult to beat. Unfortunately, despite a fantastic effort, the lads went down 3.5 to 1.5.

The Ladies Mary McKenna team were beaten by Newlands 1.5 to 3.5
Teams in action this week are as follows:
Moore Cup v Cill Dara – May 18 – 2:00pm – 4 Home 3 Away
Duggan Cup v Longford – May 18 – 3:00pm – 3 Home 2 Away
Fred Perry v Rathcore – May 19 – 2:45pm – 2 Home 3 Away

You can also keep up to date with the Live scoring which will be on the ClubNet App. Good luck to all teams taking part.

GOLF INTO LIGHT:
Black Bush Golf Club was the place to be at 6am on Saturday morning last. 28 teams played in our unique Golf Into Light for Pieta House. It was great to see so many people out on the course at that hour of the morning, golfing for such a great cause. The amount raised currently stands at €3,300 which is a fantastic show of support from our members and friends. Thanks to those who played and to those who contributed. Thanks also to Paul and the course team, who came in at 4:30 to make sure that the course in was in top condition and that the clubhouse was open. Finally, thanks again to Harmony Catering, their suppliers and staff who provided the very well received breakfast baps free of charge.  Harmony also returned their tips to us for inclusion in our fund. Overall this was a great show of club spirit, everyone coming together for a great cause.

JUNIOR CAMPS:
Shane O’Grady with the assistance of Paul and Rick will be running Junior Summer camps during the first week in July. If you know of anybody that may be interested in taking part (they don’t have to be members), then please contact the Pro Shop 01-8250793.

MATCHPLAYS:
Matchplay competitions are now in full swing with lots of matches being organised. We would ask that members put their names on the timesheets when booking matches. This will mean that there won’t be any disputes as to who has right of way on the first tee. If people feel they will require catering when they complete their match can they please let the caterers know so that they can arrange for somebody to be here, if required.

Here are the updates for this weekend – Friday 10th May

SOCIAL GOLF & JOKER:
The social golf planned for tonight has been cancelled. It will resume again next Friday night. As a result the Joker draw, for a jackpot of €1,200 will take place after the “Golf into Light” event tomorrow.

Members are asked to return notable results and scores from society golf singles, classics, 2, 3 and 4 person team competitions, foursomes, fourball and matchplays at other courses to the club. Notable scores books are available in the ladies locker room and, for the gents, behind the bar. Please return cards also where possible. Entrance fees can be given to any of the organising committee or can be brought to the Office.

Here are the updates for Friday 3rd May.

SUGGESTIONS:
Over the last two months a number of suggestions have been received. These are detailed below and the various responses are detailed. Some of the items put in the suggestion boxes were not suggestions per say and as such will not be responded to here, neither will any that are now obsolete due to the passage of time. Please do keep your suggestions coming.

Some ladies would like a 15 hole competition as well as an 18 to facilitate some who find the 18 too long.
Response
– On Tuesdays there is currently the option to play either 18 holes or 9 holes in competition. It is not envisaged that a third option be offered at this stage.

Slow play: Would it be possible for Course Ranger to speed up play – Sometimes there are 4 sets of players on one hole.
Response
– It is up to all players to ensure that they are just behind the group in front rather than being just in front of the group behind. We would ask all members to be cognisant of this out of respect for all other golfers on the course and if you are holding up play please call the group(s) behind through. The club does not currently employ a Course Ranger and as such does not have a facility to monitor the pace of play.

Please put up a big sign to bring a sand bag on all courses.

Response – It is up to all members to assist in the maintenance of the course. Sand bags are provided beside the 1st Tee on all 3 courses and it is hoped that players will use these to fill in any divots that they take on the course. We shouldn’t need to remind members that they should also be repairing pitch marks and raking bunkers as they go as well. It is in all our interests that the course is in top condition and we can all play a part in this.
As a small gesture towards the “War on Plastic” may I suggest we consider, where possible, using wooden tees. I know this is not practical for all, especially on the par 4’s and 5’s where some like to tee the ball high and need to use a plastic tee. It seems that there is a built in “fault” in plastic tees which causes them to break easily and there are a lot of broken pieces lying around. What we could consider doing is picking up the pieces of broken tees rather than leave them to be cut up by the grass-cutters and possibly ingested by wildlife. It’s a small gesture but better than leaving broken tees lying around our tee boxes. My suggestions are:
a. Use wooden tees where possible, especially on Par 3’s
b. If you use plastic tees, pick up the broken pieces.
Response – This is a fantastic suggestion and Council fully backs the suggestions. We would ask all members to do their bit for the environment. We would also ask that all broken tees are collected from tee boxes (plastic and wooden) and disposed of in the appropriate manner. The club will investigate the placing of small boxes to collect tees at the Par 3’s. It was also agreed to enquire about placing recycling bins on the last hole of each of the 3 courses.

Suggestion re bunnies fee for visitors to play in the bunnies should be 3, all visitors are invitees of members and usually amount to 4/5 per night. The optics of raising the fee to €5 last year and the poor return that was achieved was counterproductive and should be changed back to same fee as charged for the previous 28 years.
Response – This was rejected by Council

Suggest the “C” Course be played (as designed) 1, 9, 8, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Finish on the 7th and cut out the long walk from 1st to 2nd.
Response
– This matter was previously brought before Council. In winter the walk between holes would be extended on the East course, as well as having back to back par 3s. There is also a health and safety issue consideration, in that all players would be exiting on the road into the car park and across course staff during the week with machinery coming and going to the yard.

Can we please sort out the showers – now urgent
Response
– There have been ongoing issues with not only the showers but the water system within the clubhouse. A replacement program has been costed and approved and works have commenced on these. The taps in the men’s and ladies toilets upstairs have been replaced and one of the showers in the men’s locker room has also been completed. Unfortunately to replace the showers is a huge undertaking e.g. the water to the whole building has to be shut down while the work is being completed. However, it is hoped that this work will be completed in the short rather than medium term.

Suggest a redesign of the course card more like Dunlaoghaire version. It is one of the things all visitors get when playing Black Bush. Current card needs modernisation.
Response
– A re-design of the course card is under way and a vertical design like Dún Laoghaire and Royal Tara is being considered.

There was only one match played in the last couple of days but there was enough excitement in that to last the whole week! The Ladies Mary McKenna team had won the first leg of their match away to Westmanstown 3-2, and when they were tied in the return leg 2-2, things were looking good, however, Westmanstown managed to win the last match on the hole 20 so it was into a playoff. Ann O’Neill and Majella Kilduff were selected as the playoff pair and they won the first tie hole to win the overall match. A fantastic performance by all.

There are 3 matches being played over the next week. These are as follows:

Following on from those successes the girls travelled north this week to take part in the Ulster Girls Championship. Caoimhe was the star on this occasion qualifying easily for the matchplay element and beating an Irish International along her way to the Semi Final. Unfortunately Caoimhe lost out to the eventual winner but she certainly presence known to all in attendance. Niamh was pipped on a countback in the Clandeboye Goblet for those who didn’t make the matchplay element of the Championship.

JOKER UPDATE
The Joker has rolled over and the Jackpot this Sunday will be €3,600. Angela Harding’s name was pulled out this week and it was card number 30 that resulted in the 5 of hearts turning up winning Angela €50. The lucky wine winners were Louise Purcell, Jim Duffy and Mary McCormack. Get your entry in now for next Sunday’s draw.

Please note the Joker is available for anyone to play. Members, family, friends, visitors, council members and Joker committee members. There are only two people who cannot play this current game. They are last year’s captains Terry and Anne as they set the deck at the start of the current game.

This involved placing

  • 53 cards into the brown envelopes,
  • Shuffling them
  • Numbering them 1-53
  • Finally placing them in the locked cabinet at the bar

While Anne and Terry have no idea where the Joker is positioned it was agreed by the committee that they can’t play until a new game starts. When a new game starts the current year captains < Miriam and Declan > will set the deck and won’t be eligible to play. Note all Joker activities are done under Dual control.

This Sunday 14th April will be the last draw on a Sunday as the Social golf is moving back to Friday evenings from Friday 26th of April. So the next draw after Sunday is Friday 26th April and every Friday after that until the winter season kicks off again. Occasionally we may hold the draw on a Saturday for events like captains day however notice will be communicated in advance.
As always thank you all for the support of the Black Bush Joker draw. Watch out for notices on how the club will use these funds.
The Joker committee.

NEW MEMBERS NIGHT:

CLUB V1 AND NEW PSi TERMINALS

First up however are our new PSI terminals, they are currently a work in progress, swipe card readers are due soon so please be patient and bear with us and once these few teething problems are sorted out we won’t know ourselves!

Last weekend we had a mixed bag of results. Our gents Provincial Town Team v Kilcock and our ladies Junior Foursomes v Luttrellstown had narrow defeats with both teams losing the deciding matches on the 19th, hard luck to all involved.

On Sunday our Irish Mixed Foursomes had a resounding victory against Forrest Little on Sunday. With 3 matches won the other two matches were called in, next up is Corrstown (date to be confirmed).

The Irish Junior Foursomes (Juveniles) team beat Newlands Golf club on Sunday.  Congratulations to all, we look forward to the next rounds in these competitions.

Hopefully at that stage there will be long bright warm evenings and the golf and the fun will be great.

GET INTO GOLF:
The club will again be running it’s Get into Golf program this year. This will commence on Tuesday 30th April and names are now being taken in the Pro Shop for this. The cost will again be €100 for the 6 week course. Should you know of anybody that may be interested in taking part please persuade them to contact either Rick or Paul in the Proshop. This is a fantastic way of recruiting new members to the club so the more we can get involved in this the better.

OPEN COMPETITIONS:
It has been agreed by Council that the timesheets for the Open competitions will open earlier than normal in order to allow people get themselves organised and to invite visitors. As a result timesheets will open circa 1 month before the date of the Competitions. The Easter competitions will go live this afternoon. For team events on Open Weekends, there will be prizes (depending on the number of entrants) for all male, all female and mixed teams. It is hoped that members will support the club by inviting visitors to play in these Open competitions.

INTERCLUB:
This Saturday sees the start of the action in the Inter Club matches. Our Men are in action in the All Ireland Fourball competition against Rathcore with 3 matches at home and 2 away. The matches start at 12:30pm and all support would be welcomed. The Leinster Finals of this competition will be held in Black Bush so it would be great if this team could progress to these.

ADVERTISING:
You may have heard the ad’s on LMFM or you may have had a flyer dropped through your door but the message is certainly getting out there that Black Bush is open for business. Posters will also be appearing shortly in relation to the Get into Golf. However, the best form of advertising is word of mouth. If you can promote the club to colleagues and friends, a new member or a society booking may ensue. They may only visit the club for a drink and some food but they may leave being so impressed that they want to join.

BUNNIES AND BLUES:
On Monday 1st April the Bunnies and Blues will re-commence for the summer months. These are separate competitions but the general format is the same. Both are played over 9 holes on Monday evenings, entry is €3, they have prizes on the night and also have a very successful leagues for the duration of the summer.
The Bunnies caters for the 18+ handicaps, guests are welcome but juniors and Students can’t take part. There is a timesheet in operation from 3:00pm onwards but you can play earlier in the day with arrangement with the Pro Shop. The league will be decided by the best 10 cards between 29th April and 7th September and is confined to members. Finally there will be 4 special nights from which your 3 best cards will count towards special prizes. In summary, the more you play the better your chances of winning!
The Blues caters for all handicaps, however anybody over 18 handicap must play off 18. The Blue tees are used (hence the name) and again there are league prizes similar to the Bunnies. Guests are always welcome. There is a special 2’s pot for which all participants are eligible. Prizes will be presented on the night.

Will it be yours ?

DIARY:
Great news! The diaries are now available in the clubhouse and this year they are FREE to members. However, we would request that people only take one for themselves so that there is enough for everybody. Make sure you get yours so that you can plan your golf season.

A very informative session was held on Wednesday night last in relation to the future governance of the club. The session lasted just over an hour but there was loads packed into this. Unfortunately numbers in attendance were low but it was a bad night weather wise. Another session is planned for Monday night at 8:00pm and hopefully there will be more in attendance.

The course for the week ahead is B&C. Courses will be rotated on a weekly basis for the year to ensure that all nines get equal usage.
Saturday is dedicated to the Captains Drive in.
Sunday sees the first 18 hole competition of the season with a singles competition taking place.

Update Tuesday 26th February

Tomorrow night sees the first of the information meetings in relation to the future governance of the club. This is a great chance for all members to have a say in what is a very important facet of the club. Update Tuesday 19th February 2019

Here are a few items which may be of interest

CAPTAINS DRIVE IN:
The big day is nearly here. Saturday 2nd March is the date. Hopefully the weather will be kind and there will be lots of fun and golf. This now means that this week’s jackpot is a whopping €2,800. Remember, the Joker is open to all members, family, friends and guests so why not give it a go this week.

GET INTO GOLF:
The club will again be running a golf program this year. This will start on Tuesday 30th April and will run for 6 weeks. The cost will again be €100 and all equipment will be provided if required. If you know of anybody interested they can register by either calling the Proshop or the office.

Update Friday 15th February 2019

For those that have been in the club over the last few days you will hopefully have noticed that all of the photos, pictures and pennants are back on the walls in the Bar and Annex. I am sure all members will be delighted to see these back up again. Well done to all those that helped to put them back up.

INFORMATION MEETINGS:
As mentioned in the bulletin on Tuesday, Information meetings in relation to the future governance of the club will take place on both Wednesday 27th February and Monday 4th March. These meetings will start at 8pm and are scheduled on different nights so that members have the option of attending one of the sessions. It is also very important to point out that these information meetings are for ALL members not just full members.

3 & 5 YEAR MEMBERSHIPS:
Last chance! Closing date is Monday. This is a great chance to save yourself some money and help the club at the same time.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP:
There have been some queries in recent weeks in relation to the access to the course that Associate Members have. Associate members can play in all relevant mid-week competitions (depending on availability). Associate members can play competition golf on Saturday in Ladies Hour. Associate Members can play in Open competitions at weekends. Casual golf (note, not competition golf) can be played any day of the week outside of competition times. If competition timesheets are empty Associate Members cannot play during these competition times. We hope that this clarifies matters.

DIARY:
Members will be delighted to hear that the diary is almost ready to go to print. It is hoped that it will be available for distribution on the day of the Captains Drive in. There will be no charge for the diary this year.

SAVE THE DATES:

JOKER:
There was a first this week when there were joint winners of the Joker. Pauline Fenton & Marie Doherty tried their luck together and it paid off to a degree. Their envelope was pulled and they selected the number 27. Unfortunately for Pauline and Marie it was the Two of Spades that was hidden behind this number so the ladies get €25 each. The wine winners were Paul O’Leary, Ciaran Dunne and Bren Cowman.

This now means that this week’s jackpot is a whopping €2,700. Remember, the Joker is open to all members, family, friends and guests so why not give it a go this week.

TIMESHEETS:
Members are asked, where at all possible, that they place their names on timesheets when playing casual golf. This will assist in the management of tee times etc. and will give a better indication of how much golf is actually being played on the course. Your assistance in this is much appreciated.

SUGGESTIONS:
To date 8 suggestions have been placed in the suggestion boxes. These were reviewed at the last council meeting and responses were requested from the various committees. Full details are available on the document sent as an attachment to members via BRS.

The current price of membership equates to €3,777 for 3 years (€1,259 (€1,160 Sub + 24 GUI + 25 Insurance + 50 Bar Levy) x 3)  and €6,295 over 5 years (€1,259 (€1,160 Sub + €24 GUI + €25 Insurance + €50 Bar Levy) x 5) which means savings to members of €297 and 495 respectively. TEMPORARY GREENS:
Members are asked to protect the temporary greens on the course. They are currently marked out and while, fortunately enough, they have not been used much this year, a time may come when we will have to use them so it is important that they are good in condition. As a result we would ask members not to walk on these areas, let trollies go across them or drive buggies over them. Your support in this is much appreciated.

NEW GUI INTERCLUB COMPETITION:
The Shield: This is a new GUI Fourball Interclub competition which caters for handicaps from 15 upwards with a combination of 34 max. Club members who are interested in competing in this competition should either fill in their name on the sheets in the locker room or contact Pat Smyth (086 2543877) smythpat53@gmail.com or Dave McDonnell (087 0901980) davidmcdonnell_1953@yahoo.ie who are managing the team.

THIS WEEKENDS ACTIVITIES:
Saturday sees the second round of the Singles League
Saturday also sees Ladies Hour
On Sunday the second round of the Pairs League takes place
The Sunday Social takes place on Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm with the Joker draw taking place afterwards for a jackpot of €2,400

ONE GOVERNING BODY:
After landmark votes at separate meetings held on Saturday last, the Irish Ladies Golf Union (ILGU) (100% in favour of the proposal) and the Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI) (94% in favour of the proposal) have formally approved the establishment of Golf Ireland.

This now means the game of golf in Ireland will, for the first time, have an all-inclusive governing body.

A Transition Period will immediately commence, with the intention for this to culminate with the first AGM and regional meetings of Golf Ireland happening in the final quarter of 2020, paving the way for the organisation to ‘go live’ on 1 January 2021.

The GUI and ILGU will continue to operate through the Transition Period with the transfer of functions and staff to Golf Ireland prior to the “go live” date for the new organisation.  It should be noted that this relates to the governing of golf in Ireland and should have no direct impact on the running of Black Bush Golf Club. It will however provide a single point of contact for assistance in relation to both men’s and ladies golf.

Invoices have been now issued to all members in relation to their 2019 Annual Subscriptions. If you have not received yours please contact the office and they will forward another copy to you. We would encourage people to pay their subscriptions as soon as possible. There are a number of different ways that the Subscription can be paid e.g. Cash, Draft, Cheque, Credit Card, Debit Card, Standing order or Direct Debit. We would also like to thank all of those that have already either paid their fees or have put payment arrangements in place.

HELPERS REQUIRED:
The Mens Competition team are looking for helpers to assist with the card checking duties. Helpers will be required 1 evening a month to check the cards and publish the results. Full training will be provided. It is a great way of helping out in the club and seeing what happens in the background. Why not give it a go? Please contact Michael Scott at mscott56@eircom.net for further information.

CONGRATULATIONS:
Congratulations go to our own Stephen McCarthy who won the best Gross at the TaylorMade Winter Series @ Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links on the 8th January last. Stephen had a fantastic 1under par score of 70 to win on a countback. Hopefully this form will continue for the season.

Sunday sees the start of the Singles Spring League. This again will be played over 6 weeks and will also be played on alternate days so next week’s round will be held on the Saturday.
Social Golf returns this Sunday at 1:30 with sign in from 1pm. The golf is played in a scramble format so there is no pressure on. Why not use this as an opportunity to get back into the golf for 2019?

INTER CLUB:
The team managers are now starting to get things organised for the upcoming interclub matches. These will start in earnest in the late spring and hopefully will continue until the All Ireland finals. The managers are now looking to see who is interested in representing the club in these matches. They would really like to see as many people as possible put their names down to represent the club. Notices are in the locker rooms so please put your name down for the relevant teams, you’d never know, you could be the hero of an All Ireland winning team!

SNOOKER:
There is a snooker room in the clubhouse. All Adult members are most welcome to use this facility. The Club also has a Snooker team that plays in a league with a number of local golf clubs. If anybody is interested in playing then they should contact the office who will forward their details to the relevant people. The Snooker operates, like the golf, on a handicap basis so you don’t need to be like Ronnie O’Sullivan in order to get on the team.

JOKER:
Sean Fitzpatrick’s envelope was pulled from the Drum this week. Sean selected Card Number 4. Behind this the King of Diamonds was hidden so Sean win’s €100.  The wine winners were Vivian Marsden, Gerry Hogan and Sean Fitzpatrick. These can be collected from behind the bar.  The Jackpot next Sunday is a massive €2,300.  Best of luck

RULES NIGHT:
Many thanks to Dympna Conlon who hosted a very comprehensive presentation on the new golf rules last night. The event was very well attended with almost 100 members and guests attending. Remember it is every golfer’s responsibility to know and apply the rules correctly, it can certainly be an advantage to know them in a number of situations.
